My condolences

I had barely known him during PCLs. But Thomas Klos did not look like the kind of person who would leave the world so early. He was smart to begin with and was active in class, asking questions and communicating well with his fellow PCL mates.

My friend, RIP.

Is this autumn?

People always complain, at least I do!

I had been grumbling about how cold it was when I first arrived in Melbourne 2 weeks ago. I did not even had a chance to try on the summer clothes that I brought back from home! I wondered if I should fix the fan.

Yet, Melbourne has been showing its true colours to me recently. It has been obnoxiously hot and I constantly feel the need to immerse myself in cold water. My fan is on 24/7 as my room receives the 'blessing' of sunlight every evening. My skin burns during the walk back to the residential halls. I wanted so badly to scream, to bring this weather to a halt.
Find the 3 hidden fans in the room!

But it is not all that bad. Afterall, I have a valid excuse to gobble down ice-cream and 'ogle' at girls who dress so ever skimpily ...what a visual-gustatory feast :p

Haha...

Birthday marathon! They have just turned 21...

We had been celebrating quite a lot of birthdays recently since we are back in Melbourne! You may think birthday celebrations are all routine stuff eg singing birthday songs and eating cakes, but I think I can prove you wrong.

25th feb- We were running out of ideas about how to surprise Yeu Sheng on her birthday.Little did we know that the secret meeting plan was accidentally exposed by Calvin. Imagine her hiding behind the crowd to give us a giant surprise! No wonder some of the people were acting so suspicious.

28th feb-Our er jie is still as blur as ever. Even the encounter with Shea Chuen and Justina in the halls did not arouse her suspicion. She let us to wither under the cold weather with the fireworks standing by just before Deakin pasta night. And we eventually consumed an ash-ladened cake!

1st mar-Ivie was met with a surprise party with old coursemates in Sunway University College. While she was away for church stuff, we arrived 2 hours earlier to set up everything. Friends from as far as the Melbourne city were here, even Ee Liang who had never been to Monash before. We had a good reunion of course and the party ended with a campus tour for my friends from Melbourne University!

Happy birthday Yeu Sheng, Chean Ying and Ivie!

A Tiring Start...

The first day of uni was not uneventful. Being muddle-headed as always, I was late for the first tute. And this maybe just so rare for a second year student! I had a glimpse at the group list and thought that I had gotten the correct avenue. I was late for PCL so I rushed off without a proper look. So, I ended up at the histo lab and found it locked. Then I travelled all the way back to CMSHE just to catch the third last for the tute which was held at a room near the lab! So much for the first tute of the year.

I was not able to concentrate fully during the lectures as well. I kept feeling like dozing off halfway only to find that the lecture had already come to an end!

Just another random piece of recent happenings, I bought a set of knives from Big W in the city. We were actually going to get birthday presents for Yeu Sheng and Chean Ying but ended up listening to a salesperson talking about his Forever Sharp knife. The set cost $90 but we got it at $33. It should be worth the while! So much for my resolution to save more this year…

Back in Melbourne!

After a pretty bumpy flight, I am finally back!

When the flight took off, I felt a pang of homesickness but it was quickly countered by me being jetlagged due to a mere 4 hours of sleep!

Seeing a lot of juniors in the campus reminded me about last year when I was still a freshman. There were plenty of opportunities to slack and enjoy and explore life in university.Yet a glance at the timetable and assignment sheets made it obvious that there is really a much higher expectation for us, medical students.

I saw a lot of first years during Yu Wan's housewarming yesterday. And it dawn upon me that I do not feel like a second year student!

There are still a lot to settle before the start of the semester. Hopefully, by then, I feel comfortable enough to cross the gap into my second year!

The End of The Holiday

Almost everyone gave me the envious look when I told them that I had 3 months of summer holiday. Indeed, I am so glad to be away from the stress in the medical school, from the unending tasks. But, somehow, I actually look forward to be back in Melbourne!

It is definitely easy to get homesick when I have to fend for myself in a completely foreign land. Yet, after staying there for a year, I have become so used to the latitude and become too contented with my newly found family-- MISU!

And I have found myself to miss MISU during this holiday. Not so much about the course, but the people around me. It dawn upon me that being a family is all about the social relationship, not so much about the blood links.

So, I am pretty much homesick wherever I am. Believe me, this kind of sucks because I somehow feel that I don't belong at certain times.

Anyways, I will be back to Monash in a jiffy.
Back to the challenges and back to MISU!

Au revoir to my family in Malaysia!
Bonjour to Monash and MISU!
