Sun Fong Restaurant Food Review

Sun Fong Restaurant is one of our favorite dinner spots in Kuantan! However, due to RMCO, this was only our second visit this year. Our first visit was pre CNY gathering with my colleagues.

Sun Fong Restaurant

174, Exit Jalan Teluk Sisek, 25050 Kuantan, Pahang

We had dinner for 5 adults and 2 children that night.

We highly recommend their steamed mantou with fish fillet. The fish fillet was coated with a layer of flour and honey then deep fried to crispiness. With the soft and warm mantou, it's a welcoming contrast in texture and a heavenly combination.

Braised pork ribs was finger licking good. The ribs were marinated to perfection. The ribs were served in its entirety. They were best consumed warm using the hands with the sticky sweet sauce coating the ribs and the caramelized marrow ready to be crunched on.

Chicken slices coated in flour, deep fried and coated with orange juice, sprinkled with ground peanut.

Salted egg pumpkin was always a great hit. The saltiness went very well with the sweetness of the pumpkin with a contrast of the grittiness of the coating versus the soft and fluffiness of the pumpkin slices.

Assam fish was very flavoursome with just the right amount of spiciness. The pineapple, lady finger and tomato slices were a heavenly combination with the soft fish which soaked up the spicy and soury gravy. Shark is a specialty in Kuantan and I think everyone should try.

Claypot salted fish sweet potato leaves was a great hit! It was slightly on the salty side but the fragrance of the salted fish levelled up the sweet potato leaves.

Steam tofu is an all-time favorite of my children. But we prefer a bigger portion of tofu.

Overall, we had a positive dining experience. Our verdict is therefore 7.5/10!

Tjantek Cafe Food Review

Kuantan is full of artistic and quaint cafe. Tjantek Cafe is one of it. Located along the main street of Kuantan old town area, it's quite a nice walk down the memory lane. This cafe is proudly owned by an architect and offers halal food.

The shop is very much long than wide. This creates at least 3 indoor spaces for dining. Abstract paintings and greeneries transformed the restaurant into a pretty garden and art gallery as well. A cosy place to hang out.

The whole setup is very much environmentally friendly. By scanning a QR code on the table, one can access the menu and order immediately. Payment is also therefore contactless using a wide variety of options including e wallets and credit cards.

We started our lunch with a hot cup of cappuccino and caramel macchiato. I love my cappuccino hot and will finish it in one go before the meal. The macchiato was a tad too sweet for my liking though.

The slice of burnt cheesecake was served before the main. I love how fluffy and light it was. But I prefer half the sweetness and dessert served only after the mains.

Grilled lamb chop

I love how the lamb shoulder was not fatty and was marinated and grilled till perfection without the gamey smell and taste.

Lemon Butter Salmon

A generous portion of salmon sliced pan fried and served in a bed of melted butter infused with lemon. Served with some fresh garden salad and blanched potatoes. We preferred the fish scales to be cleared though.

Grilled chicken chop

Just your good old chicken breast grilled. Still succulent and not dry though. The safest dish to fall back on when I don't know what to order.

Dr Yingzangel's Verdict 6/10!
