Back in Melbourne!

After a pretty bumpy flight, I am finally back!

When the flight took off, I felt a pang of homesickness but it was quickly countered by me being jetlagged due to a mere 4 hours of sleep!

Seeing a lot of juniors in the campus reminded me about last year when I was still a freshman.There were plenty of opportunities to slack and enjoy and explore life in university.Yet a glance at the timetable and assignment sheets made it obvious that there is really a much higher expectation for us, medical students.

I saw a lot of first years during Yu Wan's housewarming yesterday. And it dawn upon me that I do not feel like a second year student!

There are still a lot to settle before the start of the semester. Hopefully, by then, I feel comfortable enough to cross the gap into my second year!

The End of The Holiday

Almost everyone gave me the envious look when I told them that I had 3 months of summer holiday. Indeed, I am so glad to be away from the stress in the medical school, from the unending tasks. But, somehow, I actually look forward to be back in Melbourne!

It is definitely easy to get homesick when I have to fend for myself in a completely foreign land. Yet, after staying there for a year, I have become so used to the latitude and become too contented with my newly found family-- MISU!

And I have found myself to miss MISU during this holiday.Not so much about the course, but the people around me. It dawn upon me that being a family is all about the social relationship, not so much about the blood links.

So, I am pretty much homesick wherever I am. Believe me, this kind of sucks because I somehow feel that I don't belong at certain times.

Anyways, I will be back to Monash in a jiffy.

Time really flies!

Tomorrow will be the day when people flock back home and enjoy a nice reunion dinner!

Good luck

• Opening windows and/or doors is considered to bring in the good luck of the new year.
• Switching on the lights for the night is considered good luck to 'scare away' ghosts and spirits of misfortune that may compromise the luck and fortune of the new year.
• Sweets are eaten to ensure the consumer a "sweet" year.
• It is important to have the house completely clean from top to bottom before New Year's Day for good luck in the coming year. (however, as explained below, cleaning the house after New Year's Day is frowned upon)
• Some believe that what happens on the first day of the new year reflects the rest of the year to come. Asians will often gamble at the beginning of the year, hoping to get luck and prosperity.
• Wearing a new pair of slippers that is bought before the new year, because it means to step on the people who gossip about you.
• The night before the new year, bathe yourself in pomelo leaves and some say that you will be healthy for the rest of the new year.

Bad luck

• Buying a pair of shoes is considered bad luck amongst some Chinese. The word "shoes" is a homophone for the word for "rough" in Cantonese, or "evil" in Mandarin.
• Buying a pair of pants is considered bad luck. The word "pants"(kù) is a homophone for the word for "bitter"(kŭ) in Cantonese. (Although some perceive it to be positive, as the word 'pants'(fu) in Cantonese is also a homophone for the word for "wealth".)
• Washing your hair is also considered to be washing away one's own luck (although modern hygienic concerns take precedence over this tradition)
• Sweeping the floor is usually forbidden on the first day, as it will sweep away the good fortune and luck for the new year.
• Talking about death is inappropriate for the first few days of Chinese New Year, as it is considered inauspicious as well.
• Buying books is bad luck because the word for "book" is a homonym to the word "lose".
• Avoid clothes in black and white, as black is a symbol of bad luck, and white is a traditional funeral colour.

To my beloved friends,

I am sure that we had gone through the period when we had to board express buses, especially when we were not at the liberty to drive the family car yet...when we were studying away from our family.

Have you ever been appalled by any bus drivers' recklessness on the road? Have you ever felt that your life might be endangered but you still had no choice but to board the bus?

Just because you were longing to meet your beloved family and friends, just because you wanted to be back at where you really belong...

And I am sure that whoever that read about Nian Ning's demise were shocked beyond comprehension. According to the recent news, the driver had 19fines!!!

Please do sign the petition. Even though you might not need to take a bus again in your lifetime, what about your siblings? Your friends?

A piece of good news! (A stale news for a lot of us though :p)

Well, I have passed my driving test!

I know that I should have gotten my license like 3 years ago when I was in Form 5...yet time did not allow me to get it until this summer holiday...

So, oh, well, the girl who had never, in her life, have any sense of direction, will have to get herself familiar to the roads!

Hmm...in retrospective, I had to be at other's mercy to go anywhere...but now, I have a newly gained freedom which most of my peers gained a couple of years back...

Should I be glad? Or can it turn into something else?
Mom always says that once the initial thrill wears off, I will start to dread the fact that I will have to start being a chauffeur...

Whatever the future maybe, I will still treasure this proof to adulthood!
