Koi Zen Japanese cuisine kuantan

There are already two Koi Zen branches in kuantan. There's one at putra square.

The original restaurant is at star city along jalan beserah.

That shows how popular the place is. We love having lunch there because the set is simply very cheap for Japanese. Of course more discount is always welcomed. Got an additional 20% discount off using offpeak.

We ordered ala carte this time.

Spicy seafood ramen. The gravy just has the right punch and flavor. Generous portion of fresh seafood. There's also a dollop of scrambled egg which blends in very well.

Teriyaki unagi don. The eel is just simply yummy! Would be better if the rice is flavored with some gravy.



Mixed sushi and sashimi set! Sushi tastes pretty standard. Sashimi is an assorted selection of tuna，salmon and cod fish-so thick and so fresh!


Look at their lunch set menu. Mouthwatering!

Great place to hang out as well. Good for mini gatherings.

Master Mee restaurant Kuantan

For those who have been reading, you probably can guess that I really like noodles. So this is another noodle place that's worth going. Master Mee is there brainchild of the Chinese national who opened Beijing noodles initially.

So we expect awesome dumplings! I have always loved Shang Hai dumplings since my medical school days. These dumplings just satisfy my cravings.

The noodles are also handmade. Thumbs up for the chewiness and the fact that it's preservative free!

One can also order seaweed soup or Chinese herb soup. But I seriously think that you should try their dumplings.

They also have a secret master recipe for their chili sauce. It gives you a strong punch of spiciness and complement the noodle dish very well.

I rate this 7.5/10! (I think the quality of dumplings had deteriorated since I last visited)

Li Kou Fu restaurant

Another great place to have lunch. We often visit the place for a quick lunch during workdays. Li Kou Fu is fully air conditioned and always full of customers.

Braised Sungai Lembing noodles in tomato gravy. One of the must eats here because it's famous. Flavor wise, the whole dish just tastes harmonious.

Vermicelli with bitter gourd fried egg in Chinese wine soup. The bitter gourd does not taste bitter at all! In fact it goes so well with the egg and soup. One just can't help but savor the yumminess.

Home made pork balls with noodle soup topped with cripsy fried bean curd skin. The pork balls are huge and full of flavor. Juicy. Enough said.

Great place for a short hangout.
I rate it 7.5/10 (could be better if the portion is bigger).

Homemade soy milk

I am so glad we decided to buy this Phillip soy milk machine. One of my best investments.

Want to make healthy soymilk minus all the trouble straining and squeezing soymilk? This kitchen aid is the way to go!

Soak soy bean overnight in filtered water. I used a cup full for one serving (use the measuring cup provided).

Keep the beans in the fridge.

Simply chuck the beans into the machine and fill up filtered water until the minimum level.

Set the machine to soymilk option then press start.

The machine will do the job from grinding to boiling the beans to perfection.

After half an hour, a long beep hails the best fresh soymilk in town!

Strain the soybean using the filter provided.

Flavor the soymilk with sugar as desired.

It's that easy!

Sungai Lembing Station kuantan

This is a must try for those who visit the kuantan area. Sungai Lembing is a small town about 30mins drive away from kuantan town and it's famous for its hand made noodles. Love it because they don't use preservatives. Many eateries in sungai Lembing and kuantan use this traditionally made noodles but Sungai Lembing Station is one of my favorite.

Oldies feeling for the interior decoration telling the history of Sungai Lembing which was once famous for tin mining and populated by Chinese miners.

The classic way of eating the noodles. Dry noodles mixed with caramel sauce. A bowl of soup filled with stuffed soft tofu (their speciality), stuffed brinjal, stuffed okra and fish balls etc. Their stuffed soft tofu usually get sold out before 10am. So please rise early.

If you like spicy food, they also have the curry version. The curry here doesn't have much coconut milk and tastes healthier. Probably not for those who really likes very strong and flavoursome curry.

Of course you can order other pasta eg vermicelli, kuay teow and lao shu fen. But to me that kind of miss the point.

Comfort food and great breakfast anytime!

Kudzu root and papaya chicken soup recipe

It's been very hot recently. Got all these great ingredients from my mother in law. Savory soup to go with rice with a touch of sweetness.

Kudzu roots apparently is a commonly used Chinese medicine. Read this from WebMD

We got organic papayas from our kampung raw and green. Kept in the fridge to prevent ripening for this soup.

Ingredients
Kudzu root-cut in cubes (about two Chinese bowls full)
1 Raw papaya - also cut in cubes
Chicken bones
Water enough to cover all the ingredients

For a lazy person like me, just chuck all of the above into a pressure cooker. Boil the soup for about 30 minutes after it starts hissing. I don't add salt at all.

Tada..... Homemade soup of the day!

Newens Teahouse-luxurious afternoon high tea

Located in starhill gallery, Newens teahouse is smacked right in the center. This is baby Bing's first time having high tea (last year he slept throughout). It will probably be some time for our next visit as YTL platinum plus  membership is being phased out.

                   
Tada. Our rack of high tea set. Yummy sandwich to start with-smoked salmon, scrambled egg.

The next level is warm and hearty scones-original and fruity eaten with a dollop of fluffy cream and rich strawberry jam. We finished up with a cripsy Portuguese eggtart.

To top it off, perfectly shaped macaroons with a huge punch of sweetness. Red velvet muffin with chocolate drops. A citrusy cream puff. A well balanced apple tart. Finally, everyone's favorite moist chocolate cupcake drizzled with molten dark chocolate.

To enhance the flavor, we savoured their signature tea. Brew with the exact temperature and timed to produce the perfect cuppa.

All of this accompanied by live harp performance. The ultimate stress buster. Would have been better if my toddler could stay still for a while longer.

We rate the experience 8/10 ! (the only downside is the hefty price tag)
